JOHANNESBURG - KwaZulu-Natal police have arrested six young men linked to a viral video showing them brazenly shooting in the air, during a roadblock operation.

The accused appeared before the Ntuzuma Magistrates Court where the media were barred from recording court proceedings due to an order by the magistrate.

Earlier on Monday, KZN Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi spoke to the media outside court, explaining how they were nabbed.

"We were fortunate to have found them in an area around Sundumbili when they were in a car and through the investigation and interrogation, they were discovered on their way to go and kill someone and rob him of his money."

He says KwaMashu's serious and violent crime detectives positively linked the suspects to several cases including eleven murders and eight attempted murders.

"There are three others who are part of this gang that were arrested in Johannesburg and also found in possession of illegal firearms. They are also going to be brought down to join these six that we have here."
