JOHANNESBURG - It’s an emotional scene at the Boekenhoutkloof Traffic College in Tshwane, where Deputy Minister of Transport Mkhuleko Hlengwa and Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi are paying tribute to 69 traffic officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.
The pair have joined grieving families at a wreath-laying ceremony, honouring the sacrifice of the fallen officers in a solemn moment of remembrance.
Later on Sunday, Hlengwa and Lesufi will be joined by Minister of Transport Barbara Creecy for the launch of the 2024/25 festive season road safety campaign, also taking place in Tshwane.
Addressing the tearful families, Hlengwa shared words of comfort and gratitude, acknowledging their loss and the officers’ service.
“But please know that their sacrifice will never be forgotten. Your strength and resilience in the face of this unimaginable loss are a testament to the love and honour you have for your fallen officer. To the colleagues and fellow officers here today, we want to thank you for your continued service.”
