Manhunt for three suspects in connection with the murder of Fort Hare University Vice-Chancellor's Bodyguard

CAPE TOWN - The Eastern Cape SAPS is appealing to the public for information in locating three suspects in connection with the murder of Mboneli Vesele, the bodyguard of Fort Hare University's Vice-Chancelor.
Police said Vesele was sitting outside the University of Fort Hare Vice-chancelor's residence when he was assassinated in January 2023.

According to the Eastern Cape SAPS, Mboneli Vesele sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his body and was confirmed dead on the scene.
Police say they have obtained three J50 warrant of arrests for the suspects.
The wanted suspects include the 24-year-old Bafana Chiliza, 28-year-old Nkosiyazi Maphumulo, and 35-year-old Siphiwo Jejane.
SAPS say the trio is believed to be hiding between the Kwazulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape Provinces.
Ten suspects including the University of Fort Hare Employees were arrested last year on allegations of plotting to kill the Institution's Vice-Chancellor, Sakhile Buhlungu.
Police say the three suspects are also wanted in relation to the plot of VC's murder and the murder of the bodyguard.
The SAPS has secured arrest warrants from the Alice Magistrate Court for three suspects implicated in the January 2023 murder of Mboneli Vesele, bodyguard to the University of Fort Hare Vice Chancellor.
