Eskom says it has zero tolerance for vandalism of critical infrastructure

CAPE TOWN - Power utility Eskom said it has a zero tolerance against the tampering and vandalism of its critical infrastructure.
This comes after the Hawks officials nabbed a 47-year-old, Andrew Fernando Van Niekerk, for allegedly damaging essential infrastructure at Eskom's Koeberg Nuclear Power Plant on Thursday.
The power utility's security personnel reported that a sensor pipe in the reactor plant 2, worth more than R2 million, had been damaged.
The suspect was granted a bail of R2,500 after appearing in the Atlantis Magistrates Court on Friday.
Eskom's spokesperson Daphne Mokwena welcomes the arrest of the perpetrator.
"Eskom commends the efforts of law enforcement agencies and the security team for the arrest made following the incident. Tampering with the critical infrastructure is a serious crime and Eskom has zero tolerance to such activities."
