JOHANNESBURG - The Pretoria Magistrates Court has sentenced a man to three life sentences for continuously raping his stepdaughter.
On Thursday, the 50-year-old man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of his daughter, appeared before court for sentencing on three counts of rape.
According to the prosecution, in October 2018, the victim's mother went into labour leaving her 11-year-old child alone with the perpetrator at their home in Olievenhoutbosch.
The man proceeded to undress the minor, prevented her from screaming and sexually assaulted her. The cycle continued until 2020.

Handing down judgment, Magistrate Fikiswa Ntlati said the man showed no remorse for his actions and continues to deny the offences despite the overwhelming amount of evidence against him.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) welcomed the sentence.
"After the child reported the matter to the police and the man was arrested, he pleaded not guilty to the charges and denied raping the child. However, the State was able to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt. The NPA welcomes this sentencing, affirming its commitment to combating gender-based violence," said the NPA's spokesperson, Lumka Mahanjana.
