CAPE TOWN - A man has been arrested in connection with a bomb threat in Bellville.
The 49-year-old suspect was nabbed following an operation in Mamre on Friday.
It's alleged that earlier this week, phone calls were made to the Community Service Centre at the Bellville Police Station by an unknown man.
He warned that explosive devices were placed at the Department of Water and Sanitation in Bellville, the Transnet Building in Bellville South and the Bellville taxi rank.
Hawks spokesperson, Siyabulela Vukubi, said the same threat was made during a call to the Road Traffic Emergency toll-free number on the same day.
"The investigation by the Hawks' team revealed a cellphone number which was used in the commission of the offence and thereafter placed in a different handset. A suspect was subsequently identified and a warrant of arrest was issued. On Friday, 15 November 2024, a search and seizure operation was conducted in Mamre, where several evidential materials were seized. The suspect will appear at the Bellville Magistrates Court on 18 November."
