CAPE TOWN - A bogus doctor in Philippi is awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty.
Sixty-six-year-old Rasheed Mahfouz was on Thursday convicted on charges of fraud, forgery, the contravention of the Health Professions Act, the contravention of the Medicines and Related Substances Act and corruption.
He was arrested in February last year, after issuing sick notes and dispensing medication, using the details of a registered doctor.

During bail proceedings, he apparently tried to persuade a court orderly to destroy the case docket in exchange for money, and the corruption charge was added.
"The accused was previously convicted and sentenced on the same charges during 2020 to a fine of R5,000 and five years imprisonment of which it was suspended for a period of five years on condition that he does not commit similar offences during this period of suspension. Mahfouz is remanded into custody for sentencing on 21st November 2024," said Hawks spokesperson, Siyabulela Vukubi.
