CAPE TOWN - Slain Noem My Skollie actor, David Manuel, also known as Gums, has been described as a humble man who was helpful in his neighbourhood.
Manuel was shot and killed along with his best friend, Alfonso Fisher, in Gugulethu's NY141 in October.
Manuel, who was born in the same neighbourhood he was killed in, starred in the award-winning movie Noem My Skollie in 2017.
Two siblings who live across the street from Manuel's home have been arrested and appeared in court on Thursday for fraudulently taking out funeral insurance policies of more than R100,000 for Manuel.
The police believe the policy payouts to be the possible motive for the murder.
Gugulethu CPF spokesperson, Linda Kabeni, said that the community was still in shock.
"We are so disappointed that it's our people doing this to our people. It's quite shocking and disturbing. David was a humble fellow, a hustler, a struggling actor, one of our own. And for anyone to target David, we don't know."
The state also alleges that the brother and sister pocketed R50k each and also bought furniture worth R15k. They’re both charged with fraud and money laundering. They’ll be back in court next week Thursday, November 21 @NtuthuzeloNene pic.twitter.com/3A44t5J1kh
