Hanware, who describes Modack as "extremely gullible" said he made Modack believe he was paying top cops to return firearms seized from his home in 2017.
Hanware admitted he pocketed the money because Modack allegedly owed him more than R1 million.
He told the court he also hid two men involved in the murder of Cubana nightclub bouncer, Pitso Ngwalo, on behalf of Modack.
Hanware said he agreed to hide the men at a guesthouse in Milnerton before they were moved out of Cape Town.
Modack has refuted Hanware's testimony and denied the charges against him.
