KZN man linked to murder of traffic officer to make two separate court appearances

DURBAN - The KwaZulu-Natal man linked to the murder of a traffic officer will make his first court appearance in two different matters on Wednesday.
The 27-year-old man is accused of shooting and killing Superintendent Desmond Arumugam from the KwaDukuza road traffic inspectorate last week.
Arumugam was on patrol when he approached a taxi that was parked incorrectly.
He was shot and died while fleeing to safety.
Arumugam approached a minibus taxi not knowing the occupants were being robbed. When he got to the vehicle, a suspect who had just robbed passengers of their belongings shot at him.

In a bid to protect the passengers, the officer fled the scene instead of returning fire.
But he never made it far, as he died shortly after being shot.
The suspect linked to his murder was arrested by police on Monday with the murder weapons and 32 rounds of ammunition.
The accused will first appear in theNtuzuma Magistrate's Court for the possession of illegal firearms and ammunition.
He will also appear in the KwaDukuza Magistrates Court for murder, carjacking and armed robbery.
