“We felt we cannot just sell cars. We need to look after the people that are buying our cars.”
- Shumani Tshifularo, CEO - Renault
The trust operates 84 resource centres, five of which were funded by Renault. These centres give daily access to library resources to over 97,000 learners and 2,900 teachers.
They also have 9,000 learners who participate in an online reading and language programme.
Their goal is to grow to 100 resource centres by 2026.
“We felt education was the best investment you can give to somebody.”
- Shumani Tshifularo, CEO - Renault
The resource centres provide thousands of books, including in African languages, smart boards, laptops and educational resources to support learning.
Each centre also has a trained librarian assistant who provides reading classes to grades one to three and ensures the resources are properly utilised.
“We pay for the librarian because we felt it is pointless to build a library and bring in the books but have no support structure.”
- Shumani Tshifularo, CEO - Renault
Tshifularo says they work with the Department of Education to find schools in need where they can set up a resource centre.
