CAPE TOWN - The City of Cape Town says it will have more boots on the ground at tourists hotspots across the city, ahead of the busy December holidays.
This is part of the municipality's festive season readiness programme to keep visitors and locals safe.
The city's commissioner for public safety, Robbie Roberts, said that the 14 hiking trails in the Mother City would be one focus areas for increased security.
"For the mountain trails, we are deploying from 4 o'clock in the morning until 12 o'clock during the day. Then again from 12 o'clock until 8 o'clock in the evening. We are deploying a total of 32 law enforcement officers, seven metro police officers, as well as seven traffic officers."
He added that officers had also been deployed in Bo-Kaap and the CBD.
"We are having a total of 100 law enforcement officers deployed on a shift basis on a 24-hour basis and that is to ensure that our tourists and our local residents are safe and secured for the festive season in the CBD."
