JOHANNESBURG - Tshwane has escalated the ongoing water crisis to what it calls an inter-governmental level.

The city seeks external intervention following a power trip at Rand Water’s Palmiet Booster Pump Station, which left several areas without water.

The outage, which began on Wednesday, continues to affect the city’s water supply, as critical reservoirs remain low, with airlocks in the system preventing proper water flow.

The city's spokesperson, Lindela Mashigo, said efforts to address the issue are under way.

She added teams are working to clear the airlocks and restore water to affected areas, including Laudium and Attridgeville.

“It is important to indicate that Tshwane political executive and senior management view the situation in a serious light. The city has deployed 126 water tankers to the impacted amenities, hospitals as well as the affected communities.”
