CAPE TOWN - The Social Development Department has encouraged prospective parents to consider adoption to provide love and care for orphaned and vulnerable children.
On Saturday, the department marked World Adoption Day in Vryburg, in the North-West.
Spokesperson Bathembu Futshane says the department believes every child separated from family life has the right to receive appropriate alternative care.
"The purpose of commemorating World Adoption Day is to create public awareness of the need for adoptive parents, educate prospective adoptive parents/caregivers about the adoption process, and celebrate families that have opened their hearts to provide a sense of permanency and belonging to children in need of care."
