JOHANNESBURG - Disaster management teams are on standby in Kwazulu-Natal as severe weather conditions are set to hit the province this weekend.

Heavy rains and thunderstorms are expected in most parts of the province, following a level 2 and 4 weather alert.

KZN Cooperative Governance spokesperson Senzelwe Mzila urged residents to be cautious and avoid travelling on bridges and roads in low-lying areas.

Mzila also warned residents to refrain from hosting outdoor events.

"Lightening, hail and flooding may result in injuries and death. If possible, stay indoors, clear off windows and cover vehicles."
