JOHANNESBURG - Following recent violent protests in Mozambique that disrupted operations at South Africa’s Lebombo port of entry, the Border Management Authority (BMA) and South African Revenue Services (SARS) are collaborating to clear the cargo backlog.
Cargo operations resumed on Friday after Mozambican authorities resolved technical issues with their systems at the Ressano Garcia Gate in Mozambique.
The BMA's Commissioner, Michael Masiapato, has confirmed that the restoration of Mozambique's processing systems has allowed operations to resume.
BMA spokesperson Mmemme Mogotsi said the BMA and SARS teams are focused on clearing the current cargo delays.
"We are pleased to announce that the Mozambican systems have been restored, with processing activities resuming at the KM 4 checkpoint on the Mozambican side."
Meanwhile, travellers are advised to stay informed about updates before planning trips to the neighbouring country.
