JOHANNESBURG - Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema says there’s no love lost between him and Dali Mpofu following his exit from the party.
On Thursday, Mpofu announced he was the latest senior EFF member to leave the red berets for Jacob Zuma’s uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party.
The former EFF national chair said the decision is only about fulfilling his political agenda at a party he said he helped Zuma establish a year ago.
Before the 29 May elections, Malema said at least two meetings were held between opposition parties looking to unseat the African National Congress (ANC).
Mpofu's first proposal was to disband the red berets and form a new political outfit led by Zuma.
The second proposal was absorbing the small parties into the EFF.
None of these proposals saw the light of day.
Mpofu said he made several proposals on how to reshape the political landscape to address growing challenges.
“And all of this, by the way, was known by the EFF leadership so it was not clandestine.”

Malema said Mpofu’s decision was inevitable.
“We respect his decision, there’s nothing we can do about it. He has been there, I know of the work he has been doing.”
Malema also hinted at more prominent EFF members possibly defecting as the party grapples with an exodus of leaders
