Inmate rearrested after escaping Boksburg prison

JOHANNESBURG -The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) has confirmed that Martin Jackson, an escaped inmate, has been re-arrested and is now back in custody.
On Wednesday, Jackson escaped from the Boksburg Correctional Centre under what the department said are circumstances currently under investigation.
Jackson was admitted on 10 April 2015 and is serving a 20-year sentence for robbery, theft, and possession of a firearm with ammunition.
Department spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo said a comprehensive investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify any potential lapses in security is underway.
"The Department of Correctional Services confirms that Martin Jackson has successfully been apprehended and returned to custody," he said.
Nxumalo added that the DCS is focused on preventing future occurrences and reinforcing the integrity of its operations.
"The Department of Correctional Services is conducting a full investigation to understand the circumstances surrounding the escape and to prevent future incidents. The inmate will now face additional criminal charges related to the escape," Nxumalo said.
