Court set to deliver judgment in Luyanda Botha's attempted rape case

CAPE TOWN - Judgment is set to be delivered in an attempted rape case against convicted murderer and rapist, Luyanda Botha in the Wynberg Magistrates Court on Friday.

Botha, who is serving a life sentence for the rape and murder of 19-year-old Uyinene Mrwetyana in 2019, is on trial for the attempted rape of a nursing student ten years ago. 

Botha is accused of attempting to rape a student in the shower room at Athlone Nursing College in June 2014.

Botha said he was at the college to look for his girlfriend, but instead found the complainant taking a shower. 

The state alleges Botha punched, choked, and kicked the complainant before attempting to rape her. 

Defence attorney for Botha, Kyle Petersen said there's no proof Botha was there to commit rape and no basis to reject his evidence as false.
