CAPE TOWN - An associate of alleged underworld gang boss, Nafiz Modack, has testified about how he took over security at Cape Town's night clubs from slain businessman, Mark Lifman.
The State witness was on the stand on Thursday, in relation to charges of money laundering, public violence, attempted murder and murder.
Modack and 14 co-accused face 122 charges for various crimes related to running a criminal enterprise.
Anwar Gallie told the court that in 2012, he joined Modack in forming a security company called Eagle VIP.
He said after the company closed down in 2017, two of Modack's properties were auctioned.
Gallie said controversial businessman Mark Lifman, who was shot dead in George on Sunday, caused a dispute when he bought one of Modack's properties.
He said that after a confrontation at a second auction, Lifman threatened Gallie, who then took it upon himself to take over the security at Cape Town's nightclubs.
Gallie told the court that at the time, Lifman was in control of security at Cape Town's clubs.
