CAPE TOWN - The wife of slain top cop, Charl Kinnear, said she was disgusted with the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) for not informing the family about its decision to declassify a report related to his murder.
IPID announced its decision to declassify the "top secret" investigation report at Parliament on Wednesday.
Kinnear, who was head of detectives in the province, was shot dead outside his Bishop Lavis home in September 2020.
Nicolette Kinnear attended the briefing at Parliament on Wednesday as a member of the media.
She said the Kinnear family were not informed about the briefing.
"And then to have the arrogance to say that it's more important for the nation to know before we as a family need to know... I lost my husband. My children lost their father. How dare they say that the nation has a right to know before we do."
Nine police officers, seven from the SAPS and two from the Hawks, have been implicated in the report.
Kinnear said that IPID should also be held accountable for withholding the report since it was classified as top secret in 2022.
