JOHANNESBURG - Public Works and Infrastructure Minister Dean Macpherson said they needed a new funding model to meet the country’s infrastructure needs.
But Macpherson said that by working with Infrastructure South Africa (ISA), they had established an infrastructure pipeline valued at over R64 billion for infrastructure projects that would deliver impact by creating jobs.
Macpherson was addressing the inaugural MINMEC meeting with the country’s nine public works MECs in Cape Town on Tuesday.
"It is now common knowledge that the state does have sufficient funds to support this ambitious infrastructure programme. Therefore, new and innovative funding solutions are essential including blended finance and private-public partnerships."
Macpherson also said they would be addressing the problem of extortion in infrastructure projects at a summit later in November.
