9 police officers implicated in murder of Charl Kinnear as IPID declassifies report
IPID announced its decision to declassify an investigation report related to Kinnear's murder at Parliament on Tuesday.

CAPE TOWN - Nine police officers, including the former head of the Western Cape Anti-Gang Unit (AGU), have been implicated in the murder of top cop, Charl Kinnear.
Kinnear, who was head of detectives in the province at the time, was shot dead outside his Bishop Lavis home in September 2020.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) announced its decision to declassify an investigation report related to Kinnear's murder at Parliament on Tuesday.
Ipid says nine police officers, including a former head of the Anti-Gang Unit, are implicated in the report. Ipid has handed over the names of the officers to the NPA to consider prosecution. CP

IPID said the report was classified in 2022 to protect sensitive information related to witnesses and police officers who were yet to be charged.
Director of investigations for IPID in the Western Cape, Mario September, said that nine officers had been implicated in the report.
"With regard to the SAPS members, we will start with the most senior... is the former commander of the AGU."
September said that two brigadiers, three captains and three warrant officers were also implicated in the report.
He said that the names of the officers have been handed to the NPA to consider for prosecution.
