CAPE TOWN - A co-accused in the high-profile trial of alleged underworld gang boss, Nafiz Modack, had an outburst in court on Tuesday, accusing a State witness of lying while under oath.
This after former anti-gang unit (AGU) head, General Andre Lincoln denied being part of a plot to kill Modack on behalf of slain top cop, Charl Kinnear.
Modack and his 14 co-accused face 122 charges for various crimes, including the murder of Kinnear in 2020.
Co-accused Yannick Adonis faces charges of conspiracy to commit murder for allegedly planning three botched attacks on Kinnear in 2019.
Adonis, who was in jail at the time, claims he was an AGU informant and told Lincoln about Modack's plan to kill Kinnear.
Defence attorney, Pieter Nel, questioned Lincoln about allegedly giving Adonis a cell phone while he was in prison.
But when Lincoln denied the allegation, Adonis stood up in court and accuses him of lying.
"You took an oath. You gave me the phone... it's in the statement. My lord, I will plead guilty to whatever but tell the truth please!"
Judge Robert Henney instructed Adonis to consult Nel if he had issues related to Lincoln's testimony.
