CAPE TOWN - The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) says a high-profile case against three alleged underworld figures will not be withdrawn after the main accused, Mark Lifman, was shot dead.
Lifman was on trial alongside alleged underworld figures Jerome "Donkie" Booysen, Andre Naude, and Igor Russol, who along with 10 others face charges related to the 2017 murder of "steroid king" Brian Wainstein.
Lifman was the primary accused in the case before he was shot dead in George on Sunday.
NPA spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila said the case against the remaining accused would proceed without Lifman.
"We do not intend to withdraw charges against any of the accused following this incident... Defence has indicated that they need more time, but they will come back to us as the State on Friday."
Ntabazalila said the NPA would provide the court with Lifman’s death certificate when the matter resumed on Monday.
