JOHANNESBURG - Eyewitness News has been reliably informed that two men linked to the assassination of a controversial Cape Town businessman have been arrested.
Alleged underworld kingpin Mark Lifman was shot and killed in a parking lot at the Garden Route Mall in George on Sunday.
Lifman was expected to appear in the Western Cape High Court on Monday with other alleged underworld figures.
They are charged with the murder of "Steroid King" Brian Wainstein.
Reliable sources have told EWN that the gunmen in the Lifman murder were nabbed at a farm in Uniondale, a few hours after the hit.
Police have yet to officially confirm this.
EWN has sent numerous requests for confirmation to Western Cape police officials. Lifman has been at the centre of controversy for several years, often mentioned alongside alleged high-profile underworld bosses like Jerome "Donkie" Booysen and Nafiz Modack.
He has also been linked to the alleged extortion of nightclub owners in Cape Town and has recently been embroiled in a court battle with former Beerhouse owner Randolf Jorberg.
Lifman filed a R1 million defamation claim against Jorberg, who has accused him of being involved in the murder of a bodyguard at the drinking establishment in 2015.
'I ALSO HAD A HIT ON MY LIFE'
Andre Naude, one of Cape Town businessman Mark Lifman's closest friends, said he was shocked at the news of his friend's assassination.
Speaking to EWN outside the Western Cape High Court earlier on Monday, a visibly shaken Naude said no one deserved to die like that.
"We are hoping that the South African Police will do what needs to be done. I also had a hit on my life last week."
