JOHANNESBURG - In order to meet the increasing demand, Emirates announced it has expanded its services to Africa by adding a daily trip to Johannesburg.
The airline will return to its pre-pandemic 49 weekly flights on the route, with the addition of a fourth daily flight starting in March next year.
Emirates has steadily expanded its footprint on the continent, currently operating 20 passenger and cargo gateways, which has improved Africa's connectivity and the growth of the air transport industry.
"Africa has long been a priority region for Emirates, and we will deepen our strategic focus of expansion and continued investment on the continent, as an important anchor for our future network," said Adnan Kazim, Deputy President and Chief Commercial Officer of Emirates.
"With Dubai serving as a major entry point to developing economies throughout Asia and the Middle East, the addition of frequencies to our current sites in Ethiopia, South Africa, and Uganda supports regional expansion and establishes vital connections."
The fourth daily flight to Johannesburg will add a morning slot to and from South Africa's biggest and busiest international airport from 1 March 2025.
Kazim said to better manage capacity, Emirates SkyCargo moves general cargo from Johannesburg to Cape Town and Durban via trucks, to ensure goods move on customer’s timelines. Additional passenger flights will address these capacity constraints in each market, he assured, as the airline prepares for future growth, with the delivery of new freighters until the end of 2026.
