JOHANNESBURG - When we travel in the skies, it's always tedious for family and friends to wait for you to land before they can talk to you.
Never mind communication, consider the situation when you need to pay for something but can't because you must wait for a network connection.
The availability of Wi-Fi on aeroplanes will be a significant step upmarket.
Air France recently declared that it will gradually introduce an ultra-high-speed broadband service starting in 2025 to create a "ground-like" experience.
Passengers will be able to access this new service, and it will be entirely free in all travel cabins. The present Wi-Fi service will eventually be replaced with this one on all of the airline's planes.
The service will see passengers playing video games online, watching live news around the globe, staying in touch with loved ones and watching movies - among others.
Passengers will be able to connect multiple devices including computers, cellphones and digital tablets.
