CAPE TOWN - President Cyril Ramaphosa has called for the swift arrest of those responsible for the murder of Nkosikazi Nogcinile Mtirara at Mqhekezweni Great Place in Mthatha.
Nkosikazi Nogcinile, from the Amadlomo clan of the AbaThembu kingdom, was killed along with her friend and neighbour in Bityi last week.
On the same day, six matric girls were also robbed and raped in the area.
In reaction to the brutal murder of Mtirara, Ramaphosa stated that the merciless killing of women filled society with grief.
Ramaphosa said that such acts strengthened the authorities’ resolve to combat violent crime and bring justice to those who disrespected the dignity and lives of their fellow citizens.
These recent murders in the Bityi administrative area come just days before the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence, observed from 25 November to 10 December.
The town has been under scrutiny following the mass murder of five family members in October.
Ramaphosa has urged community members to collaborate with the police to apprehend the perpetrators.
