Police call for calm in Alex following girl's death after eating spaza shop snacks

JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng police have called for calm in Alexandra following the tragic death of a ten-year-old girl, who allegedly ate suspected contaminated snacks from a local spaza shop.
This comes after reports of a mother and her two children suffering severe stomach pain after consuming the chips.
Tragically, the young girl was declared dead at the scene, while her mother and four-year-old sibling were rushed to the hospital, where they remain in a critical condition.

Gauteng Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Tommy Mthombeni said that a dedicated team of police investigators was working alongside health experts and other authorities to uncover the facts surrounding this incident.
Mthombeni urged the public to avoid speculation and allow investigators to proceed with their work, emphasising the importance of a thorough and unbiased inquiry.
"We also extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family of the deceased child and wish a swift recovery to the mother and the other child."
Meanwhile, the community is in an uproar, ready to destroy the store.
