JOHANNESBURG - Doctor Linda Ncube-Nkomo, CEO of the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund, said that it’s painfully clear that 30 years into democracy, the country continues to fail its children.

Ncube-Nkomo was speaking as part of a panel of leaders at the launch of a child poverty study, conducted by the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund and Deloitte Africa.

One of the most staggering findings from the study shows that of South Africa’s 17 million children, 13 million live in poverty.

Ncube-Nkomo emphasised that there’s no time for the blame game, only for actionable solutions.

"We’ve had 30 years to see that the manner in which we are doing it right now is not working. And so we’re not going to get the answers of what we need to do differently now, but I think we need to ignite the conversation that says let’s step back and let’s look at what does it need to change, does need to change."
