JOHANNESBURG - ActionSA is urging the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) to act swiftly in prosecuting politicians linked to state capture corruption.

This was in response to the withdrawal of charges against former African National Congress (ANC) spokesperson Zizi Kodwa by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Kodwa is alleged to have received nearly R1.7 million in kickbacks from EOH executive Jehan Mackay in exchange for government contracts.

ActionSA member of Parliament (MP) Athol Trollip has expressed concern over the DPP’s decision to drop Kodwa’s charges.

"The NPA had indicated that they thought they had a strong case and could prosecute, and now they’ve withdrawn the charges. It brings into doubt the fact that the State has not prosecuted any of the high-profile state capture cases."

However, NPA head Shamila Batohi has announced that she is reviewing the DPP’s decision to drop the former minister’s charges.
