Sara-Jayne Makwala King speaks to artist, illustrator, designer, comedian and actress Julia Anastasopoulos, the creator of Tali Babes and Suzelle DIY.

Listen below.

She's the brilliant mind behind South Africa’s favourite OTT 'it-girl' Tali Babes and Somerset West’s own Queen of DIY, Suzelle.

She’s an award-winning actress, artist, and director who brought the quirky, hilarious Tali Shapiro to life and captivated audiences with her sharp satire on millennial culture and the influencer world.

Whether you know her from SuzelleDIY or the Tali series, Julia Anastasopoulos has cemented herself as one of South Africa’s most talented and beloved creatives.

Julia recently released her latest work, another collaboration with husband Ari Kruger, the film The Shakedown.

And if that wasn’t impressive enough, she’s one of the judges for the International Emmys.

"It's so cool and I felt so honoured to have been recognised... It was such an awesome experience! We spent the day watching amazing content from around the world."
- Julia Anastasopoulos

The Suzelle DIY creator often works with her long-term creative partner and spouse Ari Kruger.

Their most recent collaboration saw them teaming up for crime comedy caper The Shakedown.

The pair also have two children together, Zoe and Zach.

"I do get the, 'How do you juggle work and motherhood?' question, a lot."
- Julia Anastasopoulos

The creative couple have been together for twelve years, and married for seven, and the key to their successful marriage?

Laughter!

"He makes me laugh. It's the best. From day one, and that's how I knew."
- Julia Anastasopoulos

Anastasopoulos says she was bitten by the performing bug from a young age and would often be cast as the lead in school plays.

Later she went on to study acting at drama school.

Of her beloved characters Tali and Suzelle, Julia says there have been occasions where people haven't 'got' that they are characters!

"I have been in meetings with people that have asked me, 'Is Suzelle coming to the meeting?'"
