JOHANNESBURG - An Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Student Command member who was expelled from the party following an online spat with its president, Julius Malema, said he wants a disciplinary hearing.
Kganki Mphahlele, a second-year political sciences student at the University of Limpopo, said the termination of his membership is procedurally unfair.
On the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, Mphahlele accused Malema of trying to "impose" Godrich Gardee as the party's deputy president.
His comments come a few weeks before the EFF heads into its third elective conference, where it will elect a new national leadership.
A few hours after exchanging words with Malema, Mphahlele was served with an expulsion letter.
The letter said Mphahlele violated several provisions in the EFF's constitution.
It said he brought the party into disrepute by publicly defaming and insulting its leaders.
However, Mphahlele said he cannot be expelled without a disciplinary hearing.
“It’s how things must be. I must go for a disciplinary hearing, and if they call it, I will attend it and I will defend myself. I can tell you in good faith if they are fair to me in the disciplinary hearing, then I am not going to be expelled. I might be isolated by comrades, I might be purged some way or another, but I would not be expelled.”
The EFF Student Command did not respond to queries from Eyewitness News.
