JOHANNESBURG - The funeral service for six-year-old Amantle Samane, who was raped and killed, was underway in Soweto on Thursday.
The little girl’s body was found last week in the alleged perpetrator’s home.
Pethe Sara Simiao is accused of luring the child while she was playing with her friends last week.
He was arrested for the crime three days later.
There was a sombre atmosphere in the Orlando Community Hall, where mourners gathered to bid farewell to Amantle.
Her uncle expressed the deep void her death has left in the hearts of those who loved her.
"Amantle was a joyful child who filled our home with laughter; we loved her dearly."
Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero was also present and expected to address mourners.
Meanwhile, Simiao is expected to make his second appearance in court on Friday.
He’s been charged with kidnapping, rape, murder, and violation of the Immigration Act.
