JOHANNESBURG - A Sekhukhune United football star linked to the death of a nine-year-old child in a hit-and-run incident is expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrates Court on Thursday.
Ekurhuleni Metro Police said the little girl was travelling with her mother and 13-year-old neighbour when the collision happened on Wednesday.
The child died at the scene, while her mother and the older child were injured.
The Premier Soccer League (PSL) player fled the scene but later turned himself in after police launched a manhunt.
Ekurhuleni Metro Police reported that upon arrival at the scene, they discovered alcohol in the player’s car and other drugs.
Since the incident, police have opened a case of culpable homicide, reckless and negligent driving, and fleeing the scene of an accident.
Meanwhile, Sekhukhune United representatives have declined to comment until the club concludes its own investigations.
