CAPE TOWN - Reclaim the City has cautiously welcomed Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis' announcement about more land being identified for social housing.
Hill-Lewis on Wednesday told the city council that land in Brackenfell, Wesfleur and Belhar has been earmarked for affordable housing.
Public participation processes are already underway for land release at the Mowbray Golf Course, Ottery, Lansdowne and Rondebosch East.
However, Reclaim the City's Karen Hendricks prompted the city to start construction on sites near the inner-city that have been vacant since 2021.
"For Reclaim The City, we once again urge the city to build affordable housing on those sites that were earmarked for affordable housing that are still just empty sites."
