CAPE TOWN - One of the country's most popular soapie writers, Danie Odendaal, has died.
He was the producer of the well-loved Afrikaans soapie 7de Laan, and the head writer for Egoli.
He died at his Langebaan home at the age of 77.
Tributes are pouring in for Odendaal, who was said to be a legend, a master of his craft, a perfectionist, and one of a kind.
Vinette Ebrahim, who played the role of Charmaine Meintjies on 7de Laan, remembers the legend.
"The world is a lesser place with Danie not in it. He more recently had a stroke, and we knew that he was ill, but certainly his death is a huge blow, and I am very sorry that he's gone. It really weighs heavily on my heart."
Theodore Jantjies played the role of Xander: "Oh man, there's so much to say about Oom Daan, like most of us called him. not just a talented writer and a producer, but he was so dedicated. His creative genius that shaped the iconic 7de Laan."
