JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi is set to provide an outline of his government’s first 100 days in office on Wednesday.
In July, Lesufi was forced to establish a multi-party executive after the African National Congress (ANC) lost its majority in the provincial legislature.
The ANC-led Government of Provincial Unity is made up of several parties, including the Patriotic Alliance (PA), RISE Mzansi, and Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP).
Lesufi established a minority government in July after the ANC and Democratic Alliance (DA) were unable to reach an agreement on the composition of his executive.
Despite this, Lesufi has repeatedly expressed satisfaction with his government, which consists of four political parties.
On Wednesday, he will outline the accomplishments of his minority government over the past 100 days and reflect on some of the challenges faced.
One of his government’s major initiatives is the construction of a high-speed train linking Gauteng to Limpopo.
Lesufi is expected to provide a progress report on this mega railway project.
