ESTCOURT - A KwaZulu-Natal family whose relatives were killed in a mass shooting said it's been living in fear long before the attack.
Six people were shot dead in Nyezane, Estcourt, over the weekend.
Four of them are from the Mazibuko family, which said it's always been worried about gun violence in the area.
Five people have been arrested for the murder.
The Nyezane village appears to be peaceful and quiet, with its hilly mountains covering the small rural area.
But for those living there, the area has turned violent.
The Mazibuko family, which lost its relatives in the attack, complained about the lack of gun control there.
Mgigiyeli Mazibuko spoke to Eyewitness News: "Another worrying thing is that a person can carry a firearm all over. We would be sitting and eating meat here, but people are carrying firearms and are armed."
Mazibuko said they needed government to deploy law enforcement agencies to stabilise the area.
