JOHANNESBURG - Eastern Cape police are investigating two crimes, including the rape and robbery of five school children.

The pupils were attacked at gunpoint overnight in Mqhekezweni, just outside Mthatha.

The other case involves the matriarch of the local royal family, Nogcinile Mtirara, who was shot by two men wearing balaclavas on Tuesday.

The circumstances behind both attacks are unknown.

"Both investigation teams will leave no stone unturned to ensure that these perpetrators are brought to justice. Anyone with information that can assist in tracing these suspects is urged to contact our SAPS Crimestop number - 08600 10111 - or alternatively report to the nearest police station," the police's Siphokazi Mawisa said.
