CAPE TOWN - Western Cape Premier Alan Winde is calling for honesty, courage, and discipline in this year's Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement (MTBPS).

Finance Minister Enoch Gondongwana will table the MTBPS in the National Assembly on Wednesday.

Winde says the minister needs to be honest on how the National Treasury will manage the country's fiscus to ensure economic growth and job creation for the next few years.

The budget must give citizens hope that their money is allocated to where it is most needed, added Winded.

"Of course, in this province, we also need to make sure that the funding is going to the fastest growing provinces like the Western Cape, the funding is going to frontline services like teachers, nurses, and social workers.

"These are the frontline workers that are picking up the strain of a fast-growing population where many citizens are moving from other provinces to the Western Cape."
