CAPE TOWN - The Wilgenhof Alumni Association said a probe related to the controversial residence was simply window-dressing for Stellenbosch University to force through a premeditated decision.
This follows allegations from chancellor and former Constitutional Court Justice Edwin Cameron that a final report stemming from the probe was altered before being handed to the university council.
The investigation followed after disturbing items related to previous initiation ceremonies and alleged racism were found in Wilgenhof's archives.
Cameron alleges the university hid an original report that included recommendations other than closing the residence.
Wilgenhof Alumni Association spokesperson, Jaco Rabie, said the allegations showed the university did not act in good faith.
"The university will now have to answer damning questions about secrecy, tampering, and dishonesty. What should have been a fair and transparent process turned out to be the opposite. This underscores why the Wilgenhof Alumni Association had to approach the High Court for intervention."
Stellenbosch University said it found the developments deeply regrettable and would now convene an extraordinary meeting of council on Friday.
