JOHANNESBURG - Newly elected Mogale City Mayor Lucky Sele said he wants to introduce a culture of accountability in the municipality.
The African National Congress (ANC) councillor was elected to the top position on Friday, becoming the West Rand municipality's third mayor in three years.
Sele takes up the position as the municipality is in the midst of a water pollution crisis, dwindling revenue and illegal mining.
Sele told Eyewitness News that there needed to be a mindset change among municipal employees to solve all these issues.
"It disappoints me that sometimes a sewer can spill in a township for four to five days and no one in the municipality cares to attend to that issue speedily. So, we are going to have a new culture in the institution to ensure we attend to things speedily and where there are challenges no one sits on their laurels."
