Cross-examination of retired top cop in case against alleged gang boss Nafiz Modack postponed

CAPE TOWN - The cross-examination of retired top cop Jeremy Vearey in the trial of alleged underworld gang boss Nafiz Modack has been postponed.
Modack and 14 co-accused faces 122 charges for various crimes, including the murder of Vearey's colleague, Charl Kinnear.

Vearey's cross-examination centres around 25 counts of corruption against Modack.
He was due to be cross-examined but the matter was put on hold due to Modack's attorney not being ready to proceed.
The State alleges that Modack tried to bribe Vearey and the late Kinnear to return six firearms confiscated from his home in 2017.
Financial records show more than R3 million was made to a middleman, but none to Vearey or Kinnear.
Vearey who denies accepting bribes from Modack, is now set to be cross-examined next Monday.
