Parliament's police committee calls for overhaul of SA's intelligence following spate of mass murders

CAPE TOWN - Parliament's police portfolio committee is pushing for the country's intelligence structures to be recapacitated.
The committee's call follows two mass shootings in Cape Town this week.

Five people were shot dead in Atlantis on Wednesday.
And in Bishop Lavis on Friday, another seven people lost their lives.
Three suspects spent the weekend bars for the Bishop Lavis attack, and are expected to appear in court on Monday.
Detectives are still continuing their search for clues to make an arrest in connection with the Atlantis killings.
Committee chairperson Ian Cameron said that it is clear that South Africa's crime intelligence network urgently needs more funding and specialised personnel.
He called for collaboration between national, provincial, and local governments to formulate strategies to deal with the spate of mass murders and gang violence.
