JOHANNESBURG - Deputy Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Deputy Minister Dickson Masemola says the next expanded public works programme (EPWP) is projected to create nearly 5 million job opportunities.
The EPWP is a government initiative designed to provide temporary work for unemployed South Africans.

During a media briefing on the sidelines of the ANC NEC meeting in Ekurhuleni on Saturday, Masemola emphasised that the initiative will focus on assisting vulnerable communities.
"The ANC-led government is revitalising the expanded public works programme, which is in the fifths phase, aimed at creating 4.7 million employment opportunities. The EPWP has been rebranded for greater impact with exit strategies that empower participants to develop skills and create enterprises."
