BMA says Lebombo border remains open despite violent protests in Mozambique

JOHANNESBURG - The Border Management Authority (BMA) said that the Lebombo Border Post remains fully operational despite sporadic tensions in neighbouring Mozambique following the announcement of the country’s election results.
Acting commissioner Jane Thupana confirmed that the BMA is working closely with local authorities to manage any potential disruptions caused by the protests in Ressano Garcia, a Mozambican town close to the South African border.

Thupana reassured them that the situation is under control with normal movement of people and goods continuing.
"The BMA team supported by other law-enforcement agencies are on the ground to manage any movement blockages and an alert has been issued for travellers to avoid night-time travelling due to the current situation. However, we can reiterate that the Lebombo point of entry remains open."
