JOHANNESBURG - KwaZulu-Natal's department of public works and infrastructure has suspended two of its officials.

They are implicated in an alleged dodgy multi-million rand hospital project to the tune of R79 million.

The department said that investigations are underway after whistleblowers came forward with the claims.

"The suspensions relate to contract work at four KZN hospitals, valued at R79 million, for the eradication of asbestos," said Steve Bhengu, MEC Martin Meyer's spokesperson.

"The probe will examine the rate of completion, value for money, and work done in relation to invoices issued. This decisive action underscores MEC Meyer’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and integrity within the department."
