CAPE TOWN - Operations at the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway have been suspended temporarily following a fire inside the parking garage on Thursday.
Structural engineers will on Friday investigate the damage caused to the garage and the administration building after a bank of lithium batteries caught alight.
About four hundred people had to be evacuated.
Cape Town resident, Wesley Fester, was on Table Mountain when the fire broke out.
"I think I heard about it because I was being escorted by one of the top executives there and she told me, ‘Well, we can’t go down at the moment because there is a fire down there and the cable car service has been stopped’. That must have been after one o’clock and I eventually came down at around five o’clock."
